Robert, Mildred and Keith Holmes Memorial Basketball Scholarship

The Robert, Mildred and Keith Holmes Memorial Basketball Scholarship is designed to assist students with essential expenses while attending an accredited/qualified University, College or Trade School in the United States.

Eligibility Requirements:

 One male and one female graduate from Miyamura or Gallup High school who played in the Robert L. Holmes and Mildred L. Holmes Basketball Tournaments.   The GPA shall be 3.0 or higher.   Each eligible student who desires assistance shall write an essay up to 300 hundred words, stating why they deserve the scholarship. The Athletic Director of McKinley County and a school counselor will make the selection.  Dr. Holmes will be notified of the recipients and a copy of the essay forwarded to her via email:  chonita@holmesbasketballscholarship.org

Continuing eligibility criteria:

The student must be accepted and enrolled in the institution before any money is applied.  Funds are to be held in the students bursar account for distribution by the institution. The scholarship shall be used toward Tuition, books, supplies, class or lab fees, or Housing.   The scholarship is for duration of eight consecutive semesters only. The student shall maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher per semester.

Probation:

A student who has met the initial eligibility requirements whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 will not be awarded for the upcoming term.  Students can re-establish eligibility by raising their GPA by the end of the next semester.  Although no awards will be made during probation, all terms are counted toward the maximum number of eligible terms.

Pay Out Guidelines:

 The first scholarships will be given to graduates in 2012 and yearly thereafter.   The award is $500.00 for each qualifying semester, or $1000.00 per year, according to the above guidelines. The scholarship continues for each recipient for 8 consecutive semesters or a total of 4 years only.
